CYBERCHASE, the award-winning math adventure series seen daily on PBS, is looking for interns for Spring 2009. Both an animated public television series and a multi-media project, CYBERCHASE is designed to engage children ages 8 to 11 in the fun and challenge of math. All CYBERCHASE internships are at Thirteen/WNET New York.
Interns will be expected to:
- Commit to at least two full working days per week (9:30 am to 5:30 pm)
- Organize and maintain editorial files and production files
- Review and proofread materials
- Assist with administrative activities (copying, faxing, filing, etc.)
- Observe and assist in the planning and execution of development meetings
- Assist with production of live-action segments (when seasonal schedules permit)
- Transcribe tapes
- Assist with compiling information about the series and distributing it to various in-house and outside parties/partners
- Assist in the submission of the series for awards and competitions
- Assist in all other projects on an as-needed basis
Interns will gain an understanding of:
- What it takes to produce and manage a content-based, animated children’s television series including the scripting and production process from page to screen
- What it takes to run a large show with a small staff
- How math content is developed in a kid-friendly and innovative way for each episode
- How the show’s mission and objectives extend beyond broadcast though creative online and print activities
- Various aspects of PR, events, marketing, press and other activities related to the production
- What goes into product, game, and web site development for the series
You must have a high energy level, a good head for details, and an ability to manage several different projects at once. You must not be hesitant to roll up your sleeves and be a team player. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills are essential, as are good typing skills and phone manner. Ability to work independently is a must, as is ability to work effectively under deadlines. Experience with Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator or similar design software is a plus (but not a requirement).
Spring 2009 internships begin in January, and candidates must be able to work at least two full days per week. College credit is available.
